4-Ingredient Chicken Cordon Bleu Crescent Braid

Some recipes just stop you in your tracks the moment you see them. This golden, flaky crescent braid stuffed with juicy chicken, savory ham, and bubbling melted cheese is one of those dishes. It looks like something you would spend hours on, but the truth is it comes together with just four simple ingredients and almost no effort at all.

The first time I tried this, I was completely blown away. The outside bakes up beautifully golden and crisp while the inside stays impossibly tender and cheesy. It is the kind of lunch or dinner that earns you serious compliments without draining your energy or your grocery budget. Once you make it, it will absolutely become a regular in your rotation.

Ingredients

  • 1 can refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 2 to 3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cooked and sliced
  • 6 to 8 slices deli ham
  • 1 to 1.5 cups shredded Swiss or mozzarella cheese

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking pan or loaf pan with aluminum foil and lightly grease it.
  2. Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a flat surface. Press the seams together so you have one large, unified sheet of dough.
  3. Along the center of the dough, layer the cooked sliced chicken breast down the middle, leaving a few inches of dough on each side.
  4. Layer the deli ham slices evenly on top of the chicken.
  5. Sprinkle the shredded cheese generously over the ham and chicken filling.
  6. Cut diagonal strips along each side of the dough, about one inch wide, cutting from the edge in toward the filling on both sides.
  7. Starting at one end, fold the strips of dough over the filling, alternating sides as you go to create a braided look. Tuck in the ends to seal everything in.
  8. Carefully transfer the braid to your prepared pan and place it in the preheated oven.
  9. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the top is deep golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbling at the edges.
  10. Remove from the oven and allow it to rest for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.

Tips for the Best Results

Make sure your chicken is fully cooked and sliced before assembling. You can use rotisserie chicken to save even more time. If you want extra flavor, brush the outside of the braid with a little melted butter before baking. Swiss cheese gives it that classic cordon bleu taste, but mozzarella works beautifully if you prefer a milder, stretchier melt. Leftovers reheat wonderfully in the oven or air fryer to keep the crust crispy.
