We’ve all had those moments where we see something in the “wild” that leaves us completely stumped. My grandpa recently had one of those days when he spotted a peculiar white sticker on the back of a car and just had to snap a photo to ask, “What on earth is this?”
If you take a look, you can see exactly what confused him. At first glance, it looks like an abstract blob or perhaps a very strangely shaped piece of geography.
The Big Reveal: It’s Not a Blob
For those who didn’t spend their childhood (or adulthood) glued to a Nintendo console, this silhouette is actually a Pikmin.
Specifically, this is a Mushroom Pikmin (also known as a Puffmin). These little guys are iconic characters from the Pikmin video game series. In the games, you lead a parade of these tiny plant-like creatures to solve puzzles and fight off giant bugs.
Why the Mushroom Hat?
In the game, a normal Pikmin can become “confused” or “corrupted” when it is doused in spores from a Mushroom creature. When this happens:
-
The Transformation: A mushroom cap sprouts right on top of their head.
-
The Behavior: They stop following the player and start attacking their own friends!
Seeing this on a car usually means the driver is a big fan of Nintendo’s more niche, whimsical strategy games. It’s a bit of an “if you know, you know” handshake for gamers.
