Southern Old-Fashioned Goulash

Directions

  1. Brown the Beef
In a large skillet or Dutch oven, cook the ground beef over medium heat until no longer pink. Drain any extra grease.

  2. Sauté Aromatics
Add the onion and garlic to the skillet. Cook for about 5 minutes, or until the onion softens and turns translucent.

  3. Build the Flavor
Stir in tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Bring to a gentle simmer.

  4. Add Pasta
Mix in the uncooked elbow macaroni and water. Stir well to ensure everything is combined.

  5. Simmer & Cook
Cover the pot and let it cook on low heat for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pasta is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed.

  6. Cheesy Finish (Optional)
Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top, cover for a few minutes, and let it melt into gooey perfection.

Tips & Variations

  • Swap ground beef for ground turkey or sausage for a different flavor.

  • Add diced bell peppers, mushrooms, or corn for extra veggies.

  • Spice it up with a pinch of crushed red pepper or a dash of hot sauce.

  • Double the recipe—it reheats beautifully for easy leftovers!
