Back in the 1930s, a cutting-edge appliance known as the Hercules was regarded as a marvel. This particular model, boasting a flask-like design and covered in crocodile skin, stood as a luxury item, especially amid the economic hardships of the Great Depression. It’s intriguing to contemplate how an innovative product of that era differs significantly from the cleaning technologies in use today. As I write, I am witnessing my Roomba® autonomously cleaning the floor—a task that was once performed by a machine as intricate as the Hercules.
