The Psychology of the “Click”
Why do we stop and count the circles anyway?
-
The Barnum Effect: Humans have an innate desire to learn about themselves. We are hardwired to look at vague, generalized statements (or silly egg pictures) and think, “Wow, that is so me.”
-
The Pattern Brain: Our brains are masters of pattern recognition (a phenomenon called pareidolia). We can’t help but see the smiley face in the center, the ring of yolks, or the circular shape of the pan itself.
-
The Debate Factor: Memes like this are engineered for the comment section. One person sees 9 circles, another swears they see 14, and suddenly a massive, lighthearted debate is born.
Spoiler Alert: If you’re genuinely trying to count them all, you’ve got the outer rim of the pan, the inner ring of the pan, the giant circle of egg whites, the black cutout smiley face, the two cutout eyes, and 9 perfectly round egg yolks. That’s a whole lot of circles for breakfast.
The Verdict
So, does counting 9 yolks mean you have a healthy ego, while finding 15 circles means you love yourself a bit too much? Not at all.
But if you looked at this picture and immediately thought, “I cook eggs better than that,” well… we might need to talk.
What about you? How many circles did your brain pick out on the first glance? Drop your count in the comments
