“AMISH POOR MAN’S STEAK” RECIPE

THE INGREDIENTS NEEDED:

FOR THE STEAK:

4 cube steaks (usually round steak that’s been tenderized).

1 Cup.Of all-purpose flour.

1 Tsp.Of salt.

1/2 Tsp.Of black pepper.

1/2 Tsp.Of paprika.

2 Tbsp.Of vegetable oil.

FOR THE ONION GRAVY:.

2 large onions, thinly sliced.

2 Tbsp.Of butter.

2 Tbsp.Of all-purpose flour.

2 Cups.Of beef broth.

Salt and black pepper to taste.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1st Step

While preparing the gravy, set the oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit (93 degrees Celsius) to keep the sirloin toasty.

2nd Step

Mix the flour, salt, pepper, and paprika in a shallow dish. The cube steaks will be coated with this flour mixture.

3rd Step

In a large pan over medium-high heat, heat the vegetable oil. The pan must be large enough to accommodate all of the steaks without congestion.

4th Step

While the oil is heating, dredge each sirloin cube in the seasoned flour mixture, ensuring that both sides are evenly coated. The tenderloin is lightly coated with flour.

5th Step

Place the steaks in the heated skillet and cook for about 4 to 5 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked to your desired degree of doneness.

6th Step

Once the steaks are done cooking, place them in an ovenproof dish and place them in a prepared oven to keep warm.

Prepare The Onion Gravy:

1st Step

In the same skillet as the steaks, combine the butter and cut scallions.

2nd Step

Cook the onions over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until tender and caramelized, approximately 15 to 20 minutes.

3rd Step

Add two tablespoons of flour to the caramelized onions and continue to simmer for an additional two to three minutes, whisking constantly. This will aid in the gravy’s thickening.

4th Step

While stirring, slowly pour in the beef broth. It will take approximately 5 to 7 minutes for the mixture to simmer and coagulate. Ensure there are no masses by periodically stirring. Salt and black pepper are added to flavor the gravy.

Serve The Amish Poor Man’s Steak:

1st Step

Take the steaks out of the oven and position them on plates. Ladle the hot, savory onion gravy over each steak generously.

2nd Step

This dish is typically served with basic sides, such as mashed potatoes, buttered noodles, or green beans, which complement the flavors flawlessly.
