Disaster in the Kitchen: My Slow Cooker Nightmare and a Lesson Learned

I got my very first slow cooker just last week—something I was really excited about. As someone who loves comfort food but doesn’t always have time to cook, a slow cooker seemed like the perfect solution. Chili, stews, pot roasts—you name it, I was ready to conquer it. What I didn’t expect was for my brand-new slow cooker to end up in ruins before I even had a chance to properly use it.

This morning, my roommate decided she wanted to heat something up. Not in the microwave. Not on the stove. Nope—she used the slow cooker. Not for slow cooking, but for what she assumed was just “heating something up quickly.” And that’s when things went horribly wrong.

🔥 The Explosion: What Went Down

I came into the kitchen to find the glass lid of my slow cooker completely shattered, with shards of safety glass everywhere—inside the pot, on the counter, even embedded in the food. The pictures say it all: a beautiful, brand-new Bella slow cooker destroyed in a matter of minutes.

Apparently, my roommate thought she could just toss in some leftovers and crank it up on high like an electric skillet. She didn’t realize that slow cookers are designed for gradual, moist heat—not fast cooking or reheating dry foods.
